This is because these charts can be easily used as a visual aid to help make that which would otherwise be an abstract process more concrete in the minds of employees and clients. A few years back, people used to use their own symbols to create flow charts. The Origination of the Symbols
Many of the flowchart symbols used in business and school flowcharts are originated from the symbols used in computer science flow charts. These charts were the first be used when a code was assigned to variety shapes and symbols to further demonstrate the universal language of a binary code process. Since binary code is a universal language, the symbols used to describe various processes being performed with the use of a computer program also needed to be a universal language. The successful use of these charts and the simple understanding amongst many individuals of the symbols commonly used in them led to their use in business and school settings.
Some of the Common Symbols
Some of the most common flowchart symbols which are used are those which have been designated for describing the start and the end of a particular process. The uniform use of symbols such as ovals or even rounded rectangles used in one of these charts helps a group of individuals better visualize a particular process and the start and stop points that they need to take notice of. When people can make a visual determination as to where these points are in a process it can better help them understand the flow of the process between these two points.
Other Symbols Used
There are two main categories of flowchart symbols which are used most commonly today. The first is the basic set of flow chart symbols used by those in the computer science industry where these symbols were first originated from. These symbols are mainly various shapes which are used to denote everything from the process of a computer program to various computer hardware use processes. The shapes used in this form of flowchart information can also relay information such as a particular type of paper to be used in conjunction with a computer.
